About this seller
ProfessionalProduct description
Vintage counter chest with twenty drawers, from Central Europe. Originates from mid-20th century commercial furniture, when this type of piece furnished haberdasheries and shops for displaying and storing small goods.
Pieces of this type were used as counters in shops and haberdasheries, organizing merchandise in a grid of identical drawers beneath a protective glass top.
The light-toned wood body is arranged in five columns of four drawers with sabre-shaped brass pulls and rests on slender black lacquered metal legs.
The wood retains a uniform light tone typical of decades of commercial use, with the original glass top protecting the upper surface.
In a contemporary living room, entryway, or retail space, it works as a distinctive storage piece, bringing the functional character of mid-century vintage furniture.
