Product description
Authentic hand-thrown stoneware studio pottery vase by American ceramist Samuel Calder, made around the 1960s or 1970s.
Calder lived from 1916 to 1991 and worked, among other things, as an animator at Disney Studios before opening his own pottery shop at Universal Studios in Hollywood.
This piece is characteristic of his working method, where he refused to duplicate designs, making each object from his hand unique.
The exterior has a matte, rough texture with abstract, incised geometric lines.
The interior and the folded neck are finished with a smooth, glossy brown and greenish glaze.
On the underside, the vase is hand-signed with his characteristic incised brand name calder in a darker glazed area.
The object is in excellent vintage condition without cracks, chips, or restorations.
Height approximately 8.5 centimeters
Base diameter approximately 8 centimeters
Top opening diameter approximately 5.5 centimeters
