English Arts & Crafts George V oak dining room armchair with rush seat and ladder back, circa 1920, in excellent original condition.
The armchair has five shaped horizontal slats held between two vertical supports in the form of a ladder back. The chair has contoured arms, connected to the rear supports by turned and tapered supports. The chair has an integral rush seat, which is in very good condition (no wear or damage). The chair sits on straight, single, turned legs in the front and sword legs in the back. The legs receive additional strength by being connected together by simple turned stretchers, with one at the front and rear and two stretchers on each side. The chair is solidly constructed and rests evenly on the floor.
The chair is a warm golden brown color. As it has the original polish, it has a beautiful color and patina that can only be achieved through age and the years of care and cleaning it has received.
