Unique vintage armchair model ‘RZ 62’, designed by the renowned Dieter Rams and produced by Vitsoe in the 1960s. This armchair is part of the iconic 620 Chair Programme: a revolutionary modular seating system from 1962 in which individual elements can be easily linked together to form a flexible and endlessly expandable whole.
This particular example is an original 1960s high-back version, originating from a collector's private collection. After a period of storage, we have carefully inspected the armchair and refreshed it where necessary, while preserving its original character and authenticity.
The armchair is in very neat condition; the white plastic shells are still nice and taut and show only some light signs of use, exactly what you want to see in a genuine vintage piece. Nothing unusual, just neatly used and with a subtle patina. The frame is sturdy and feels solid. Everything fits as it should; nothing wobbles or has ever been tampered with. The only notable detail is a small chip in the plastic on the right side. The upholstery is made of supple cognac-colored leather, giving the chair a rich, luxurious appearance that will only grow more beautiful with age. The cushions of this armchair are filled with down instead of foam, similar to early versions of the Eames Lounge Chair. Combined with the seat element constructed from metal springs and the backrest that subtly moves with the body, this ensures exceptionally high seating comfort.
The 620 armchair is not only an icon in design history but also a key example of a shift in thinking: from static furniture to flexible, modular systems with a long lifespan. Everything about this design has been reduced to the essence: tranquility, logic, and functionality, exactly as Rams envisioned it. A chair that you don't just see, but above all experience. An armchair made to last a lifetime, or even several.
