Art Deco logo for Philips from 1938 designed by Louis Kalff, among others. Very rare. Estimated period: 1938 Material: Paper pressed on cardboard. Dimensions: 24.5 cm (h) x 18 cm (w) Philips started in 1891, but the first known logo dates from 1938. It is based on an earlier version introduced around 1925. It was designed by Johann G. van der Leij and Louis Kalff. Johann decorated the emblem with shiny four-pointed stars, which he associated with electric light, and Louis Kalff added wavy stripes – sound waves moving through the air. The logo is formed by a vertical rectangle (top) that smoothly transitions into a circle (bottom) and forms a golden surface. Against this background are depicted other elements: a blue horizontal rectangle with the words “PHILIPS” and a red circle with three wavy lines and four stars.
