Product description
Vintage Mexican Amate Bark Folklore Painting on Bark Paper
This work is a typical piece of 20th-century Mexican folk art! The folklore painting is painted on amate bark, or Amatl, which is paper made from the bark of trees that is flattened with a stone. The bright, unmixed pure colors stand out even more due to the dark tones in the paper.
This framed print depicts two colorful birds fluttering through a field of flowers. At the bottom, we see a mythical creature leaping in the grass that appears to be a cross between a duck and a deer. An imaginative, colorful feast for the wall!
The print is in good condition; however, there are two holes in the bark at the top in the unpainted area (see photo 5), and the edges are somewhat 'chiseled,' but this suits the rough appearance of the bark material. The frame is made of plastic, and the window is also made of plexiglass. Unfortunately, this one is a bit reflective and has some scratches on the surface.
