The 'Round' lamp, designed by Michele de Lucchi for the Italian manufacturer Bieffeplast, is a quintessential example of Memphis-era lighting design. This piece encapsulates the bold, geometric playfulness that defined the 1980s avant-garde movement, offering a striking silhouette that challenges traditional lighting forms.
Constructed in Italy, the fixture features a vibrant composition of painted metal and frosted glass. A deep blue circular backplate anchors the design, intersected by a bright green cylindrical body and resting on a light blue base. The frosted glass disc diffuses the light source, creating a soft, ambient glow while adding a layer of visual depth to the primary colour palette. The original manufacturer's label is present on the felt-lined base, confirming its authenticity and 220/240V specification.
The lamp remains in highly commendable condition, preserving its original vivid finishes and structural integrity. The painted metal surfaces retain their uniform gloss, however the frosted glass element has a small bit of damage as you can see on the pictures. When the light is on, this damage is less easily visible. The electrical components are functional, demonstrating the enduring quality of Bieffeplast's manufacturing standards.
