Vintage Mavitta Architect’s Drawing Board – Cast Iron Frame & Original Drafting Machine – Pre-War / c.1930s
Description
A rare and highly characterful vintage Mavitta architect’s drawing board, featuring a substantial cast-iron adjustable frame and original Mavitta drafting machine. An impressive piece of early British drawing-office equipment, combining genuine industrial character with a fully mechanical, articulated drafting system.
The board has a large tilting drawing surface operated by the original foot pedal and counterbalanced mechanism, with the original Mavitta drafting machine mounted to the board. The drafting machine retains its articulated parallel-motion arms, drafting head and counterbalance arrangement.
The board is believed to be pre-war, possibly dating from the early 1930s, although the exact date has not been established. Mavitta drafting machines are documented as being manufactured in Birmingham from at least the early 20th century.
This is an exceptionally substantial and incredibly heavy piece of equipment, constructed predominantly from cast iron. It is currently in use within a design studio and will require appropriate transport and several people to move safely.
Condition
Fully working and currently in regular use within a design studio. The board retains its original Mavitta drafting machine, complete with the attached scales. It remains in original vintage condition with natural age, surface wear and patina consistent with its history of professional use.
The mechanical adjustment, drafting machine and associated equipment are all in working order. A rare opportunity to acquire a substantial, usable piece of historic drawing-office equipment without the need for restoration.
