Beautiful and rare silver plated stirrup cup displaying a wild animal head. Made in Italy during the late 1960's by Mauro Manetti, signed in the neck.
Great quality and beautifully and detailed carvings on the head. In great and fully condition, no bumps or damages.
These cups go to a stirrup set, often used during the early to mid 1900's in hunting events. Before or after the hunt a drink would be shared along the hunters while still mounted on their horses.

This impressive stirrup cup by a professional silversmith has the handle in the exquisitely detailed form of a stag’s head. The edge of the neck is signed ‘M/M for Mauro Manetti &made in ‘Italy’ and they made a series of these cups featuring different animals.
Highly collectable and in good condition with, dating to the 1960's / 1970's
The piece is in lovely condition with no damage to the metal and the detailing is nice and crisp. With aged patina, some tarnish as normal in this pieces. Show rich tarnish and wear to finish from the age.

Description: 1 Stag headed stirrup cup, made with meticulous care and pride in Italy. Large and heavy, making them not only a conversation piece but also a unique addition to your table or home decor. This mid-century vintage stirrup cup feature the heads of a Stag. They are what is called animal-headed caliper cups, originally designed for the chase. At the beginning of this sport, these cups were used when the hunter already had a foot on the stirrup. Each cup has a stem in the shape of an animal head, reflecting exquisite Italian craftsmanship.
The cups are specially designed to rest firmly on the animal’s head. All bear the seal "made in italy" and the mark "M/M ". It come from a private collection and have been carefully preserved. These Italian animal-head stirrup cups are not only heavy and free of bumps, but also have a unique feature: they can be exposed with the animal’s head up or down, This makes them excellent decorative pieces. Traditionally, a stirrup cup is offered to guests just before they ride, referring to the moment when their feet are in the stirrups. It is also the drink served at the meeting before a boar hunt. These calipers are exquisitely designed and made from a mixture of heavy metal, probably tin.
Made in italy, 1970s and stamped These cups/containers can be placed on top of the head or displayed upside down with the head clearly visible, as a trophy/sculpture on your bar. The stirrups were originally created to take a drink on horseback, usually before the start of a hunt.
