Product description
Special vintage coat rack, designed by Mathieu Matégot and produced in the 1950s by Artimeta in the Netherlands. The coat rack is made of perforated and lacquered metal and has four hooks. The characteristic openwork metal is typical of Matégot's innovative designs and gives the coat rack a light, sculptural appearance. Mathieu Matégot (1910–2001) was a Hungarian-French designer and artist who is considered one of the most famous French designers of the 1950s. He was born and educated in Budapest and moved to France in the early 1930s. There he worked as a window dresser and clothing designer, among other things. During the Second World War, he learned metalworking techniques, after which he focused on designing furniture and interior objects. He was a pioneer in the use of perforated sheet metal, metal tubes, and rattan, among other materials. His designs became characteristic examples of mid-century design.
