About this seller
ProfessionalProduct description
This vintage glass tray, produced in the 1960s in Marinha Grande, Portugal, is a stunning example of mid-century Portuguese craftsmanship. Made from a delicate blend of milky and transparent glass, it features soft tones of white, blue, and green that beautifully capture and reflect the light. Designed in the elegant shape of a leaf, the tray’s scalloped rim adds texture and sophistication, evoking natural beauty and timeless style.
Renowned as the “Capital of Portuguese Glass”, Marinha Grande has been a major center for glass production since the 18th century, combining artisanal tradition with innovation. Portuguese glassmakers from this region became known for their refined techniques and artistic flair, producing decorative and functional glassware admired across Europe.
This particular tray reflects influences similar to those of Murano glass from Italy, known for its vivid colors and fluid organic forms. The harmonious combination of opaline and transparent glass showcases the high level of craftsmanship achieved by Marinha Grande artisans.
Still in original condition, with no chips or cracks, this 1960s glass tray is not only a beautiful collectible piece but also a fine example of Portuguese mid-century design and the enduring legacy of glass artistry in Portugal.
