Offered: a magnificent, refined set of 5 original Japanese cups and saucers. This wafer-thin porcelain (also known as eggshell porcelain) is a beautiful example of traditional Japanese craftsmanship, presumably dating from the early to mid-20th century (Art Deco / Taisho-Showa period).
Each cup and saucer is hand-decorated with a very detailed depiction of a Geisha (Bijin) in a serene, natural setting, surrounded by beautiful blossom and floral decor. The set is richly finished with the characteristic iron-red (rust/orange) hues and refined golden details. The edges of the saucers have an elegant, wavy shape.
On the underside, the saucers are marked with the authentic, hand-applied red Kutani mark (九谷) with golden calligraphy.
