Here's a fun piece of Scandinavian design history: the Karljohan side table, designed by Christian Halleröd for the 1999 IKEA PS collection. It's a collectible item known for its simple, organic form and distinctive mushroom-like silhouette that really captures the playful spirit of late '90s design.
This table is crafted from solid wood, showing off a warm, natural grain with a light finish. It features a thick, circular top and three sturdy, tapered legs that screw right into the base, a detail you can see from the underside. The original manufacturer's label confirms it was made in Sweden, adding to its authentic story.
The piece is in good vintage condition, showing a character that reflects its journey since 1999. It's structurally solid and maintains its original finish, with a patina that tells a story of a well-loved piece of furniture.
Its compact size and minimalist look make it super versatile. You can use it as a side table next to your favourite armchair, as a low coffee table in a cozy nook, or as a unique stand for a statement plant. It fits right into Scandinavian, modern, or eclectic interiors.
