Product description
This vintage handmade trinket box is made of black marble (Pietra Dura) and is decorated on the lid with a floral motif of inlaid semi-precious stones.
Material: The box is made of marble.
Technique: The decorative inlay is known as pietra dura (Italian for "hard stone") or parchin kari, where hand-carved pieces of semi-precious stone are set into a stone base. This is a traditional craft technique.
Design: The motif usually depicts flowers, leaves, or birds, and sometimes makes use of materials such as mother-of-pearl, malachite, jasper, and carnelian.
Complexity: Very detailed floral motif.
