About this seller
ProfessionalProduct description
Rare mid-century modern stool from the 1950s–1960s, likely designed by Pilastro, Tomado, or Spectrum in the Netherlands. This piece shows a clear affinity with the work of Dutch artist and designer Constant Nieuwenhuis, known for his minimal, sculptural approach to furniture design.
The stool features a three-legged bronze or alloy metal base with elegant hairpin legs and a round upholstered wooden seat, combining functionality with a striking minimalist aesthetic.
Perfect as a bedroom stool, living room side seat, decorative accent, or makeup chair in front of a mirror, it fits seamlessly into mid-century, industrial, or modern interiors. Its compact size and sculptural form make it both functional and visually appealing.
In the Netherlands during the 1950s and 1960s, brands like Pilastro, Tomado, and Spectrum produced modern furniture characterized by clean lines, functional structure, and innovative metalwork. This stool reflects that period’s minimalist and industrial design ethos, showing an affinity with Constant Nieuwenhuis’ artistic vision, which often blurred the boundary between art and functional furniture.
In good vintage condition, with minor wear consistent with age. The seat has been newly upholstered; the bronze/alloy metal base retains its original patina.
