A midcentury slip cast stoneware dish with matte brown-taupe glaze featuring an embossed relief motif of the Danish island of Bornholm where the piece was made. Produced by Johgus, a small Danish ceramics house known for their decorated pieces, the plate was made to be hung but can be used alternatively as a vide-poche or an ashtray. In good condition with some signs of gentle use. Insignia stamped on base. Johgus was founded in 1944 by Johannes Peterson and Gustav Ottesen in Rønne on the Danish island of Bornholm. Home to rich and varied clay deposits, the island was a major centre for ceramics during the 19th and 20th centuries and was home to a number of important ceramicists, including Michael Andersen and Søholm Keramik.
