Product description
This is a vintage storage chest, crafted from camphor wood and originating from China. The piece is distinguished by its extensive high-relief carvings, which depict traditional narrative scenes and motifs across all surfaces.
The chest is constructed entirely from camphor wood, a material prized for both its durability and its distinct aromatic properties, which naturally deter pests. Its exterior features a two-tone finish, with darker stained framing that contrasts with the natural, lighter wood of the recessed panels. This technique highlights the depth and intricacy of the hand-carved details. The piece is completed with engraved brass hardware and rests on four sturdy, carved feet. A label inside confirms its production in the People's Republic of China.
Overall, the chest is in a very good state of preservation, showing character consistent with its vintage age. The original finish is intact, and the interior is clean, showcasing the natural grain of the unfinished camphor wood. The structural integrity is sound, and all original components, including the hardware, are present.
This versatile piece can function as a unique coffee table, a blanket chest at the foot of a bed, or a significant decorative storage element in a living room or hallway. Its traditional craftsmanship makes it a focal point in interiors with Asian, Bohemian, or eclectic design themes.
Its in great condition. Deep carvings are super and includes 4 naturally carved handles incorporated into the mythical scenes. The carved pawa are rare.
