Private sellerProduct description
This is the iconic 'Butterfly' Armchair, a design by Dutch designer Gerard van den Berg for Montis from 1985. The piece is a striking example of Van den Berg's philosophy, where comfort and sculptural design come together. The chair owes its name to its wing-like, inviting shape that envelops the user.
The construction consists of a minimalist black metal frame, over which a generous dark brown leather cover is draped. This design creates a seat that molds to the body, resulting in an exceptionally relaxed sitting experience. The Armchair is an important work within Dutch Design of the 1980s and shows a clear movement towards organic and less rigid furniture forms.
The overall condition of the Armchair is good and consistent with its age. Over the years, the leather has developed a characteristic patina and a supple texture, which contributes to the authentic appearance of the furniture. The construction is solid and the original shape has remained completely intact.
With its expressive silhouette, this Armchair functions as an autonomous design object in the room. It is a statement piece that fits perfectly into a modern, eclectic, or industrial interior, for example, as a comfortable reading chair or as an accent in a seating area.
