Vintage Ashtray - Aldo Londi for Bitossi
Italy - 1950-1960
Model number 429, hand-stamped and stamped Italy
∅ 12 cm - H 8 cm
An exceptional, rare piece with magnificent colors.
This superb ashtray is a vibrant example of Aldo Londi's iconic Rimini Blu series, produced by Bitossi Ceramiche in Italy.
Recognizable by its deep blue glaze and intricately hand-carved details, this piece exemplifies the craftsmanship and texture that made Londi's work legendary.
The glaze, a blend of turquoise, cobalt, and hints of emerald, creates a dynamic play of light and shadow on the textured surface.
Excellent vintage condition, very little use, note a microchip, nothing drastic.
Aldo Londi [1911-2013]
Painter and sculptor, but above all a ceramist.
In 1946, Londi joined Cav. Usine G. Bitossi & Figli, a happy partnership lasting over fifty years, initially as artistic director.
Londi fused tradition and modernity. His natural penchant for research allowed him to undertake courageous explorations and define a new expressive language, stimulated by continuous technical experimentation.
His expertise in ceramics and his artistic sensitivity were extraordinary qualities for the collaborations he undertook over the years with designers and architects such as Ettore Sottsass and Remo Buti, among others.
