Product description
This Losange vase is a creation by designer Mari Simmulson, produced by the Swedish manufacturer Upsala-Ekeby in 1965. This ceramic piece is distinguished by its Brutalist aesthetic and geometric relief patterns, characteristic of mid-century Scandinavian design. Made of ceramic, the vase features a two-tone finish with a smooth, glazed upper section in brown tones, contrasting with a textured base adorned with incised triangular motifs. It measures 34.5 cm in height. The base bears the inscriptions "UE" for Upsala-Ekeby, "SWEDEN," as well as a special number "43130/948" corresponding to a commission for Åhléns & Holm, and Mari Simmulson's signature "ms." The overall condition is very good, reflecting careful preservation over the decades. The glaze retains its original luster and the textured details are intact, a testament to the quality craftsmanship of the Upsala-Ekeby factory. This vase fits perfectly into a Mid-Century Modern or Scandinavian interior. It can be displayed alone as a sculptural object on a teak sideboard or used to hold dried flower arrangements, bringing a touch of authenticity and warmth to the space.
