Product description
Material: Ceramic Manufacture: Scheurich Keramik Model: 525 Period: 1960s Country of Origin: Germany Good condition according to its age and use Dimensions: 50 x 14 x 14 cm Decorative vase with a glazed border from the German manufacturer Scheurich Keramik. Made of glazed ceramic, this vase features an elongated and stylized silhouette, with a body that tapers towards the center, reminiscent of the shape of a bottle. The exterior finish of the ceramic is beige with a striated texture, evoking a rustic and artisanal appearance. The interior features a glossy black glaze. What stands out most is the central decorative frieze: a band of turquoise blue glaze decorated with a black undulating pattern, dotted with small coral red dots, which add a vibrant touch. The chromatic contrast between the earthy base and the brightly colored details of the border creates an interesting visual dichotomy. About Fat Lava and Scheurich Keramik: Fat Lava pottery is one of the most iconic styles of mid-20th-century German design, characterized by its volcanic textures, dense glazes, and bold forms. Key to the incorporation of organic shapes and modernist geometries with the use of glaze is the aim of recreating hardened lava flows, mineral bubbles, and abstract landscapes. Scheurich Keramik, one of the most prolific manufacturers of the period known as West German Pottery (WGP), was instrumental in the development and popularization of this style. The company was founded in 1923 in Germany and began selling wholesale porcelain and crystal tableware. It wasn't until the 1950s that Scheurich began producing ceramics. In the 1960s, the "Fat Lava" era began, with thickly textured drip glazes and bubbling crater glazes that created the effect of lava. Until the 1980s, Scheurich was the largest ceramics manufacturer in West Germany. The five digits engraved on the base of the vases indicate the shape and size. For example, in the digits 525-50, the "525" represents the shape, while the "50" indicates that the vase is 50 cm tall. More recent pottery has a three-circle mark engraved on the base of the pieces. Scheurich remains one of the leading German ceramics producers today.
