Product description
Offered: an authentic antique Chinese porcelain cabinet vase from the Canton (Guangzhou) region, dating from the 19th century (Qing Dynasty).
The vase is richly decorated in the classic Famille Rose (Rose Medallion) style with detailed, hand-painted scenes of figures in a court setting (Mandarin scenes), surrounded by floral motifs, birds, and butterflies.
The details are tangibly applied with thick enamel paints.
On the neck and shoulder are the characteristic, three-dimensional and gold-plated elements: stylized lion-dogs (Foo Dogs) serving as handles, and winding Chilong (dragons).
Features:
• Origin: China (Canton export porcelain)
• Period: Late 19th century (approx. 1850 - 1880)
• Height: 18 cm
• Signature: Unmarked (characteristic of this period), with an authentic, rough foot rim and iron spots in the glaze.
Condition:
The vase is in a lived-in antique condition. There is a clear chip/shard present on the upper rim (see photo) and there is the usual, light wear to the gilding on the dragons. No hairlines or restorations. Due to the chip, this vase can go for a reasonable offer to an enthusiast or collector.
