"In Culemborg and its surroundings, the Gispen Company was one of the Most Important Employers for Decades. What began in the Thirties grew after the war into one of the Netherlands' most prominent furniture factories. With the emergence of sleek, modern design from Italy, Germany and France, Willem Gispen's designs Raaked somewhat on the background, but nowadays some of Gispen's designs and some of his contemporaries are once again in the spotlight. The 'New Objectivity' as designed by them more than half a century ago is currently experiencing a revival at home and abroad. For some years now, the most successful Gispen furniture has been manufactured under license by the van der Stroom brothers in Asperen. The company is the Netherlands' oldest existing furniture factory and manufactures, among other things, the wire platform benches commissioned by Dutch Railways."
