This is a ceramic jug, manufactured in the distinctive 'Fat Lava' style associated with Vallauris, France. The piece is a striking example of experimental ceramics from the mid-20th century. Its sculptural form and highly textured glaze make it a striking and collectible object.
The jug is made of ceramic and has a height of 24 centimeters. Its most distinctive feature is the Fat Lava glazing technique, where thick layers of glaze react during the firing process, creating a 'crater effect' reminiscent of volcanic lava. The color palette consists of a deep blue base with white and bright orange accents that emphasize the texture. This technique was popular in both West Germany and the French pottery center Vallauris in the 1960s and 1970s.
The object is in excellent vintage condition, retaining its original, vibrant colors and the complex texture of the glaze. The unique finish, which varies with each piece, gives this jug its own character and authenticity. It is a beautiful example of the artistic freedom and material exploration of that period.
