A true garden scene captured in ceramics. This beautiful decorative plate from Vallauris displays a particularly luminous design. In the center, a bird with blue, soft green, yellow, and mauve plumage glides among large daisies, generous foliage, and small deep red fruits. The design fully comes to life thanks to the work of polychrome enamels, glossy and slightly raised, which contrast with the speckled beige background with a more matte appearance. The dark brown outlines, freely drawn, give the piece that graphic and immediately recognizable character of 20th-century French decorative ceramics. The composition is at once naive, joyful, and very decorative. The colors are bold without being gaudy, and the wonderfully stylized bird adds that touch of whimsy that makes the piece so charming. The handwritten mention "Vallauris," integrated into the design in the lower part, confirms its origin. The terracotta reverse is largely exposed and retains its old hanging system, allowing the piece to be naturally displayed on the wall. With its approximately 25 cm diameter, it has enough presence to be displayed alone, but will also fit perfectly into a wall composition of antique ceramics. A piece one chooses less for setting a table than for decorating a wall and bringing to an interior that sunny, artisanal, and Mediterranean touch characteristic of Vallauris.
