Product description
This is a special set of two hand-painted ceramic wall plates, made by Royal Delft in 1987. The plates are a rare 'mirror image' pair from the 'Zwart Delfts' collection, a modern and bold take on traditional Delft Blue.
This is not a regular retail set, but an official, custom-made factory commission (commissioned work) from 1987. The extremely rare, original handwritten order form from the factory shop 'Blue-tique' (Royal Delft Ware Shop) from July 1987 has been fully preserved and is included. This form states the official factory surcharge and the unique notation "+ Speg" (Mirror Image).
Plate 1 (Bottom model on the wall): Model 87.628, manufactured in 1987 (year code DG). Fully hand-painted by the celebrated master painter Caroline Hartman (CHA). This plate was officially issued with the certificate dated July 30, 1987.
Plate 2 (Top model on the wall - The Unique Piece): Unique factory code model Z.001, manufactured in 1985 (year code DE). This is the custom-made mirror image piece, hand-painted by master ceramic painter R.C. Stradmann (RST). This unique piece was delivered after the completion of the special commission with the certificate dated September 1, 1987. The code Z.001 functioned as the unique project code for this specific custom work, meaning there is no second example of this execution worldwide.
The plates have a diameter of 29 cm and are made of ceramic with a deep black, high-gloss background. A lively, multicolored decor of birds of paradise and flowers has been hand-applied to it. Each plate is marked on the back with the stamp of De Porceleyne Fles, the painter's initials, and the year code for 1987. The set is exceptionally complete, with the original order form and two certificates of authenticity, which makes its provenance unique.
The plates are in perfect condition, without visible signs of use and are completely intact, undamaged, and free of chips or restorations. The glaze is clear and the colors are still as vibrant as in 1987.
This set is a beautiful example of Dutch craftsmanship and forms a refined accent in both a classic and a modern interior.
