Product description
Rare offering of 4 folding/foldable director's chairs/garden furniture by The Green Brothers of Hailsham, Sussex (UK) with a matching (bridge) table. Presumably painted mahogany color/wood softwood. A technique that was widely used (imitated grain and painted in the style of), before veneers really entered the market. From all the information we have been able to find (see also photos), 'The Geebro's, aka Geebo Brothers, began making ropes and rope hardware before WWII. After WW II, partly presumably after a takeover under an umbrella organization, they began making mats, garden furniture and especially as a specialization foldable (garden) furniture. They were also commissioned in 1961 to supply the (foldable) (terry cloth) upholstered bridge tables for the European Bridge Championships. Whether the chairs were also used during these tournaments we are not sure, possibly separately. However, all together a beautiful, unique and rare set. The chairs fold by pulling up the seat, under the green terry cloth is also a linen light green cloth to reinforce the seat. The backrests work independently, adjusting to your back height and rotating nicely backwards to really feel and get a lounge function. We recommend sitting carefully. We prefer to sell the set at once, please contact us for possible options. In the last photo we have everything folded. So it can be shipped with a parcel service, please contact us separately for this. The total dimensions are listed below as shipping/courier total. Dimensions loose: Table: 66.5 cm high, 76 cm wide/square. Collapsed, 5.5 cm high. Weight around 6 kg. Chairs each dimensions: Height 85 cm, Wide 58 cm, Deep 46 cm. Seat height 42 cm, Seat width 45 cm, Seat depth 40 cm. Folded per chair: High 86 cm, Wide 22.5 cm, Deep 54 cm. The chair railings and seats are made of as good as terry cloth. The total package as on the last photo folded is +/- 20 kg, with packaging it will certainly go towards 25 kg if it has to go by parcel post. Perhaps 30 kg. With the complete set you do an almost historic purchase where of furniture in museums also end up. The price is for the complete set. If you are going to choose parcel post we will ship with insured value above the asking price listed. Collection is of course also possible.

Overall the set is in very clean condition. Definitely signs of use from bumps, paint wear here and there, some dents, scratches etc. The terry cloth on the table has a little stretching (minimal stripe) and a small burn mark. In those days smoking and falling ash was no mean feat. But minimal. This is also the case on 1 of the chairs. Everything works well (folding, terry cloth no tears on the chairs, hinges fine of both folding table and chairs. Sit wonderfully and firmly. The chairs are +/- 3.1-3.5 kg each.
