Private sellerProduct description
For the true lover of classical Dutch art: a beautiful, original matching pair (pendant) of two antique polder landscapes. Both works are painted with great attention to detail and atmosphere in the tradition of the famous Hague School (estimated dating approx. 1880–1930).
This duo was originally created as a pair to hang symmetrically next to each other on the wall and forms a beautiful ensemble.
• Painting 1: Shows an atmospheric polder view with a ground mill, a farmhouse, and a farm laborer on the sandy path at daybreak.
• Painting 2 (the counterpart): Shows a shepherd tending his small flock of sheep near a characteristic farmhouse and polder mill.
Specifications of the set:
• Technique: Authentic oil paint on wooden panel (the backsides show the original old wooden structure and antique fastening nails).
• Signature: Both panels are identically signed in the lower left with a fine brush. The signature is characteristic but subtle (possibly to be read as G. v. d. Ree, George van der Ree, or a variant of Van den Berg).
• Frames: Both works are still in their original, identical, and monumental gold-colored 'floriat' frames with richly carved leaf details on the outer edge. These heavy, deep frames give the paintings a very exclusive appearance.
• Condition: The paintings are in good, neat antique condition. The authentic frames have minimal signs of age due to the passage of time (such as small chips in the corner).
dimensions HxW 23x29 cm.
