About this seller
Private sellerProduct description
Two Japanese trays, hand carved from solid wood in the shape of a fish, and laquered in red - brown - black tones.
With details as scales and fins, and a not-so-happy fish face - this is a sea bream, which is apparently a good luck symbol. These are not easy to come across especially in pairs, and I've seen some claims that the wood is special (burried wood) - but I don't know if true.
The trays have the same size (~ 30 x 20 cm), different colors and slightly different carving (hand made).
They make a nice set that can be used for decoration or serving e.g. tea, snacks etc. They are smooth, lightweight and easy to carry.
Both show patina and signs of use, consistent with having been used for food.
The price is for the set of two.
