Product description
Two antique bronze opium weights in the shape of an elephant (also called ลูกเป้งช้าง or animal weights), originating from Southeast Asia such as Burma (Myanmar), Laos or Siam.
Made of bronze or bronze/alloy with a characteristic dark patina.
They show a stylized elephant on a pedestal, often decorated with a flower or star-shaped mark (such as an aster or star mark on the front of the foot).
These weights were historically used on balance scales for weighing goods (including opium, but also precious metals and spices) in the Golden Triangle regions. Many such pieces date from the 18th century.
