Product description
It is one of those objects that immediately evoke a certain way of life. In the 1950s and 1960s, the tobacco jar was still a familiar companion in the office, living room, or library, placed near an armchair and keeping tobacco within reach. This particular one has a remarkably warm presence. Its turned wood, deeply patinated in dark brown tones, is enlivened by three friezes of small metal studs arranged regularly. Brass cabochons and conical elements punctuate the decor and subtly catch the light. The lid features the same decorative work, right down to its handle knob topped with a pretty metal rosette. The concentric turning marks are still visible, lending the piece the artisanal character sought after in objects from this period. One can imagine it in the library of a castle or a grand family home, among old bindings, placed on a mahogany desk, a game table, or next to a leather armchair. An almost cinematic setting. A few books, a low lamp, dark wood, and the muted reflections of brass. It can naturally regain its primary function for an enthusiast, but it just as readily becomes a storage box or a decorative object, immediately bringing that touch of a cabinet of curiosities and an old house that cannot be artificially manufactured. Height approximately 18 cm. Diameter approximately 11 cm. 1950s-1960s.
