Beautiful old tramp art box, jewelry box or trinket, trinket box, manufactured in the first half of the 20th century, Belgium. Beautiful form of folk art, anyone could make a tramp art object with whatever they had at hand, hence very rare to find 2 identical pieces, these unique items therefore have a high collector's value and are highly sought after. Tramp art is a style of woodworking that emerged in America in the second half of the 19th century. Some of the defining characteristics of tramp art include chip or notch carving, reclaiming cheap or available wood such as that from cigar boxes and shipping crates, using simple tools such as pocket knives, and layering materials into geometric shapes using glue or nails.
