Postmodern Rarity: Tonelli “Lobacevskij” Coffee Table by Isao Hosoe (1980s) – Rare Edition & Flawless
For sale is an extraordinary masterpiece of Italian postmodern design: the rare “Lobacevskij” coffee table (often also spelled Lobachevsky).
It was designed in the 1980s by the visionary Japanese-Italian designer Isao Hosoe for the renowned Italian glass manufacturer Tonelli.
The Design Concept – Art Meets Mathematics
The table's name is a direct homage to the Russian mathematician Nikolai Lobachevsky, one of the founders of non-Euclidean geometry.
This is precisely what the design reflects: The heavy crystal glass top breaks with traditional, straight lines and captivates with its dynamic, flowing freeform geometry.
A rare color combination: Emerald Green
While this model is often found with blue legs, this piece stands out with its three tapered legs in a deep, transparent emerald green (high-quality polycarbonate/lucite). The legs are crowned by striking metallic cylinders that are flush-mounted in the glass. An absolutely timeless and elegant contrast.
Condition: Flawless collector's item
The table is in outstanding vintage condition. The glass has no scratches, chips, or clouding. The emerald green legs are also completely flawless. Perfect for design enthusiasts seeking an untouched original.
