About this seller
ProfessionalProduct description
This Thonet prototype chair from the 1960s is a remarkable piece of design history, crafted from bentwood with a refined webbing seat. The design is characterized by the elegant cross-back and the subtle, decorative engravings adorning the wooden frame, indicating a meticulous development process.
The chair is constructed from solid wood in a warm brown hue, combined with a classic rattan webbing seat. The construction displays the characteristic wood bending technique for which Thonet is known, complemented by brass-colored accents at the intersections of the backrest. The detailed lines in the woodwork give this prototype a unique character within the manufacturer's oeuvre.
The furniture is in good condition befitting its age and use as a prototype. The wood has developed an authentic patina and the webbing seat is intact, confirming the structural integrity of the design.
This rare piece comes into its own perfectly as an accent chair in a classic or eclectic interior. It offers a tangible connection to design history and forms an understated yet striking element in a study or reading nook.
