The armchair is low and has armrests, which allowed breastfeeding women, so-called wet nurses, to sit comfortably.Material and Manufacturing: Like many early Thonet furniture pieces, it was made using the bentwood technique developed by Michael Thonet, where solid beech wood was bent under steam to create the characteristic elegant shapes.Wet nurses were a recognized profession in the 19th century, and this special chair reflects this historical practice.
