This artwork is a large-scale wooden sculpture by the Cameroonian artist Thomas Tchopzan, created in 1991. The piece is a unique interpretation of the reverse side of a 100 Guinean Francs banknote, executed as a detailed relief.
The work is carved from a solid piece of hardwood, four centimeters thick, and then hand-painted. The composition depicts a lively scene of a banana harvest, flanked by a traditionally carved figure and geometric patterns characteristic of the original banknote. The palette is rich and varied, with earthy and bright tones that accentuate the depth and texture of the carving. The artist's signature and the year '91 are visible in the lower right corner.
