Created in 2019, this coffee table reflects the distinctive approach of Belgian designer Thomas Serruys, whose work is rooted in an intimate understanding of metal, machinery, and manual craft. The segmented circular top, forged entirely from iron, is animated by a deeply textured surface and punctuated with raw mineral inclusions that introduce subtle contrast and visual tension.
Born in Bruges in 1986 and active from his atelier in the port of Ostend since 2016, Serruys developed his practice through close collaboration with an experienced blacksmith. His designs consistently explore the expressive potential of industrial materials when shaped by hand rather than machine. This table stands as a mature example of contemporary Belgian brutalism, where iron is treated not merely as structure, but as a narrative surface bearing traces of process, time, and intention.
