Thijs Buit
La Roueyre S. France 2007
Sketch black chalk
Image 12x15 cm
Framed 24x30 cm
(Hattem, 1934) arose from a continuous interaction between looking, remembering and painting. A subject can be re-examined in a different way again and again. This movement between tradition and change is characteristic of his artistry.
Buit does not repeat himself, even if he sometimes works on the same theme for a long time. This seems contradictory at first glance, but precisely therein lies his strength. He reads the landscape, as it were, and a landscape is never the same. Trees, houses and roads do not appear to be fixed data; they change with the way the painter looks. It is always about finding the right balance between form and color again.
Curriculum Vitae
(Hattem, 1934) gives form to his personal experience with paintings and graphics.
Even before his training at the Rijksacademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, he developed into a painter. From 1957 to 1962 he followed his training there, including with Professor Sierk Schröder. He was also trained in graphic techniques.
His oeuvre includes still lifes, portraits and landscapes, with a preference for the South French atmosphere. Forms and colors become part of his own visual language.
