Theo Damsteegt (Voorburg) makes graphics, especially abstract and figurative linocuts that he prints in his own studio. He often uses the
sliding printing technique, in which a linoleum block is repeatedly printed on the same sheet of paper and is shifted with each print run and possibly inked with a different colour. This technique gives an impression of depth, but can also suggest movement.
Many of his figurative linocuts are inspired by the mythology and philosophy of various ancient cultures in which the origin of the earth and the relationship between man and cosmos are central. In some prints, this background is used to depict the impending doom of the earth due to the climate crisis.
This is a litho print from 2018, framed with passe-partout.
