The Whispering Master – Museum-Quality Bronze Mahasiddha (19th Century)
A rare devotional object from Tibet or Mongolia, dating from the early 19th century.
Rare Iconography
This solid cast bronze figure depicts a Mahasiddha or revered Lama, seated in the lotus position. The unique hand position near the mouth is a rare iconographic representation of mantra recitation or deep breath control (pranayama). The human features and compact form suggest that this was a very personal object for a private 'gau' or travel altar.
Authenticity and Patina
UV light examination confirms the presence of original fire gilding in the folds of the robe. The bronze shows honest, untouched age with green mineralization and natural corrosion patterns. The underside reveals the rough casting cavity characteristic of authentic 19th-century Himalayan sculptures.
