Product description
This gladiolus grew in my own garden last year. From the grass, it kept reaching upwards, flower after flower, until its dark, deep colors unfolded like a silent crown.
For me, this flower became a symbol of strength, growth, and triumph. Not a triumph over another, but of repeatedly finding the strength to carry on. To keep your head up. To keep growing, even when life isn't easy by itself.
The Rising Black Star is about the moment when you no longer look down, but rise again and find your own way up.
The lines of the gladiolus are hand-burned into the wood. Afterwards, I built up the work layer by layer with watercolor paint and pencil. The burned-in lines remain visible and tangible through the paint. Precisely because of this, the natural structure of the wood remains part of the image, and the flower gains a lively, almost tangible presence.
The dark petals carry not only shadow. They also carry color, life, and light.
Like a star becoming visible from the darkness, this flower rises.
Not because there was never a storm, but because it kept growing. Not despite its dark moments, but right through them.
The Rising Black Star is for me an ode to the strength to grow upwards again -- and ultimately to blossom into who you truly are.
