The Chord (Het Akkoord) is an abstract sculpture by André van der Linden, created in the Netherlands in 2002. The work translates a musical principle into sculptural form, exploring tension, resonance and balance through material contrast.
A curved bronze structure bends forward in a controlled arc, forming the core mass of the composition. Stainless steel rods intersect diagonally, introducing linear rhythm and directional energy. Together they evoke the idea of a chord separate elements held in simultaneous tension, unified within a single structure.
The contrast between the warm patinated bronze and the cool precision of stainless steel reinforces this dialogue. Mass and line interact in equilibrium, giving the sculpture both gravity and lift. Rather than literal representation, movement is reduced to cadence and proportion.
