The beckoning figure of prosperity Nang Kwak is a Thai prosperity figure for trade and commerce. Her raised right hand makes the beckoning gesture with which she, according to tradition, invites customers and prosperity. In her left hand, she holds a small attribute. The Thai inscription on the plinth supports the identification as Nang Kwak.
Casting and surface
The sculpture is cast in bronze using the lost-wax technique. A portion of the original clay core has been preserved on the underside. The surface shows a dark old patina with greenish copper oxidation, localized remnants of gilding, and red pigment on the mouth.
Decoration and condition
The robe and the high plinth are fully adorned with incised geometric and linear decoration. The object shows wear, superficial corrosion, minor casting irregularities, and old material losses consistent with age and use.
