Terje Ekstrøm was a Norwegian interior, industrial, and furniture designer.
He initially trained as a carpenter and upholsterer before studying interior architecture and furniture design at the National College of Art and Design in Oslo. He belonged to a generation that questioned established concepts of Scandinavian design and sought to set new trends with innovative designs. A prime example of this work is the Ekstrem chair, designed in 1984. This piece of seating furniture resembles a sculpture more than a chair. Its innovative design allows for a variety of sitting positions. The Ekstrem chair is now a classic of postmodern design and has been produced in virtually unchanged form since 1984.
