Hungarian Anton Lorenz is one of the key figures of Bauhaus design and tubular steel furniture. He adopted Mart Stam's cantilever chair idea and developed several tubular steel icons based on it in the late 1920s, including this D35. The German manufacturer Tecta, which is sympathetic to Bauhaus design, adopted the idea of the D35 and further developed it into the current Kinetic version, in which the seat can be moved backwards using body pressure.
