This antique railway signal lantern, model État 500, is made of bronze with red glass panels, typical of the technical equipment used in railway transport during the 1920s. The piece features a prismatic structure with a metal frame and glass panels, topped with a handle for easy carrying and hanging.
The lantern retains its original patina and is in good condition considering its age and use. Its craftsmanship demonstrates the technical rigor and quality of bronze work characteristic of French engineering between the wars, combining functional precision with material durability. It was produced by Albert Butin, an engineering firm based on Rue des Martyrs in Paris, specializing in technical equipment and precision instruments for railway and industrial use. This model corresponds to the type of lanterns used for signaling train cars or track shunting, where the glass color allowed for the visual identification of orders or operational statuses.
