Early production of the Tandem Sling 3-seater sofa, designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1962.
Originally developed as a modular seating system for airports and other public spaces, the Tandem Sling combines an exceptionally light appearance with a robust and high-quality construction.
This early example still features the original black vinyl upholstery, with the distinctive geometric pattern on the individual seat and back panels. The three seats are suspended in sculpted, polished cast aluminum frames and mounted on a central steel beam. Padded black armrests complete the design.
The flowing aluminum profiles, the reclining backrests, and the protruding seat frames give the sofa a distinctly architectural and almost aerodynamic appearance. Particularly from the side, the construction is attractive and clearly reveals the technical character that runs through the entire work of the Eameses. DxHxL: 70x85x185 cm
Seat height: 40 cm
Good original vintage condition with authentic signs of age and use. The original upholstery is well preserved, with some localized wear. The polished aluminium shows scratches, oxidation, wear, and patina consistent with its age. See the detailed photos.
