Neoclassical coffee table, circa 1940: a patinated cast iron base resting on three small decorative brass feet, supporting a round reverse-painted glass top. The reverse of the top features a gilded decoration of scrolls and lines, with a superb cloudy patina. Reverse-painted glass—a technique of gilding and painting the back of glass—experienced a surge in popularity between the two World Wars, prized by French decorators for its precious reflections (in the style of Jansen or Baguès). The piece blends architectural simplicity with decorative brilliance, a hallmark of 1930s-40s neoclassicism. A stable, substantial, and elegant piece, ideal for a living room or entryway.
