Striking postmodern UFO table lamp by Steinhauer, the renowned Dutch lighting manufacturer based in Apeldoorn. This eye-catching piece features the iconic flying saucer shade with a frosted glass diffuser, supported by a sculptural spiral (corkscrew) stem rising from a weighted circular base. A small decorative ball finial adds a playful accent between the shade and the glass ring.
The lamp is finished in a warm brass/bronze tone throughout — base, spiral arm, and saucer shade — giving it a rich, cohesive look. This particular model with the spiral stem is considerably rarer than the straight-arm or three-pillar variants that were more commonly produced during this period.
Steinhauer has been producing high-quality lighting in the Netherlands since 1933. Founded on Amsterdam's Kinkerstraat, the company later moved to Apeldoorn where it remains to this day, now led by third-generation owner Mark Steinhauer. This lamp dates from the brand's postmodern period (late 1980s–early 1990s), when Space Age and Memphis-influenced design was at its peak in European lighting.
The design sits beautifully within the broader family of UFO/Saturn lamps popularised during this era, often associated with American designers like Robert Sonneman (George Kovacs). Steinhauer's Dutch interpretation stands on its own merits, with excellent build quality and the distinctively sculptural spiral stem that sets it apart.
