Behind the head is an engraved halo within a high arched backplate, creating a shrine-like composition of Buddha, throne, and halo as one. The monastic robe falls over the left shoulder and is detailed with linear folds. The face shows downcast eyes, elongated earlobes, and stylized hair curls around the ushnisha. Calamander Wood The statue is made of characteristic Ceylon calamander, a Sri Lankan Diospyros species with a very dark blackish-brown base and warm gold to reddish-brown streaks. This natural grain is especially visible where the dark surface finish has worn away on the backplate, base, and sides. Condition Old devotional image with clear signs of use and age. The dark finish has worn away in places, revealing the brown wood grain. There are small drying/shrinkage cracks and signs of use on the base and backplate.
